Three 3 Valleys Challenges to complete before the end of the season.

We’ve compiled a mini bucket list that includes our top 3 activity days, events and challenges to try in Méribel and The 3 Valleys.

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said: ‘Never before have we had so little time in which to do so much’. Now, almost seven decades on, and that statement is more pertinent than ever.

We all know that life can be demanding at times. And, for most skiers and holidaymakers, their annual trip to the mountains makes for the perfect antidote to juggling work, kids and busy home schedules. But when you finally arrive and stop to relax, how do you know you’re investing your time wisely?

Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a mini bucket list that includes our top 3 activity days, events and challenges to try in Meribel and the 3 Valleys before the end of the season. Thankfully, as spring always brings with it sunshine and more snow; the timing really couldn’t be better.

Way back in 2006, a late-night conversation between two ski-and-mountain enthusiasts quickly evolved into the Three Valleys’ ultimate adventure, whereby participants are challenged to ski or board across the whole of Three Valleys in one action-packed day. 11-years’ on and the 3 Valleys Escapade has – quite literally – come a long way and is now more popular than ever.

WARNING! May contain early mornings, no lunch breaks, sore muscles and high levels of adrenaline.

The 3 Valleys Escapade starts at one of the 3 Valleys’ lowest lifts in La Tania. From there, adventurers are challenged to touch each marker from the full circuit, which includes 35 lifts in total. Your magnetic lift pass records the stations you have ‘tagged’ and a print-out for season-pass holders is also available from the S3V lift pass office in 1850.

Check out the Escapade Hall of Fame, which showcases the likes of La Tania local, Adrian Chaffey – the the original-circuit record holder from February 2012 as well as Mark and Steve, who stepped it up a notch in January 2014 to finish the present route in just 6 Hours and 53 Minutes. Apparently, the pair attributed their success to mother nature for providing great snow and weather conditions as well as empty pistes and no queues or lift stoppages. Doesn’t take much, right?

To help you on your way, here’s a super handy PDF that explains which lifts to take, where and when; and you can even download it straight to your phone. Oh, and if you’re falling behind schedule and wish to avoid the costly €200 taxi ride back from getting stuck in Val Thorens, don’t stress about completing it all in one day. According to the lift pass office, all previously-tagged lifts will still appear on your lift pass records, so you’re also free to complete at your leisure. Don’t worry… we won’t tell; mum’s the word.

Bon courage!

Psst: Always check the lift-opening information before setting off. When the snow cover is thin or especially sparse, some of the connections to neighbouring valleys and parts of the Escapade Challenge may be closed.

Jumping on the selfie bandwagon – and new for winter 16/17 – the 3 Valleys recently unveiled their ‘official selfie spots’, which can be found dotted across Courchevel, Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. With 6 new spots in total, each ‘selfie checkpoint’ is equipped with a high-quality weatherproof camera that is ideal for both cheesy close-ups and perfectly-posed panoramic shots.

How about challenging your group to a timed ‘selfie spot race’ and make the most of the magnificent mountain backdrop and views on-screen and on-piste while you’re at it. Set-up is easy. Simply download the app onto your smartphone, look into the camera and say cheese (or fromage of course). The picture is then sent to your device for you to download and show off to enviable friends back home.

Go on, grab your friends, pick up a piste map and find your best light. It’s time to get selfie snap happy:
